EMRDA has made agreement with US Embassy

EMRDA has also made agreement with US Embassy on August 2018 (in coronation and with grant from PEPFAR). The purpose of the project is to create an enabling and supportive social environment for the community to disclose their HIV status, initiate HIV treatment early stage and stay on treatment among the Muslim community.  To this end the goal of the project is to contribute to the regional effort of reducing HIV/AIDS related mortality and morbidity.

The major strategies adopted to meet the goal of the project are:

  • Community mobilization through faith based organization
  • Strengthen linkage between the faith based structure and the community
  • Employ Behavioral Change Communication tools (BCC)
  • Prevention of the impact of HIV/AIDS on segments of the community members

Program Beneficiaries / Audience 

  • Religious leaders across the Islamic faith spectrum: this include leaders of the supreme council; Sharia Jurisprudence (Qadi); Imams; Mosque Committee members; Ustazs (Religious Teachers) and Religious Activists, Youths and Women.
  • Religious media users: this are the general community who participate in mass media and social media and the general community that attend the media
  • Mosques Congregations in PEPFAR intervention areas: these are people who live in certain districts and share some Islamic facilities like Mosque and Medras or even CBOs structure;
  • People living with HIV/AIDS: this can be PLHIV Association members, individuals who are not a member of any association.
  • Communities impacted by HIV/AIDS: thisincluding orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), adolescent girls and young women, men and boys, and marginalized populations who are impacted by HIV/AIDS.
